University of Phoenix manages technology in a couple different ways. There are two different ways University of Phoenix manages their technology externally and internally. The externally University of Phoenix uses the OLS system, which is the Online Learning System. This system allows the instructors to interact with the students. It is HTLM based so many different technology tools can be used with this system. The internal uses IT infrastructure to support online environment.
University of Phoenix has a 24 hour tech support to assist external and internal systems which requires support. According to Pirani (2003) tech support of 12 individuals were used to support 50 plus servers. Pirani (2003) went on to state that the IT depart used Windows 2000 to operate a Web farm on a Microsoft Internet backbone, and specialized servers. Fast forward to 2011 and there could be over 1000 servers and 100s of individuals supporting the online environment with University of Phoenix. Tech support can field over 7,000 calls in a single given night to support the technology tools externally (Pirani, 2003).This the second part of our discussion about the technology employed by University of Phoenix to support adult education and training.
